The bitter reality of my employment

Have you ever worked at a job and after a while realized that it's nothing but a vacuum for your existance. The longer I work here, the louder the sucking sound of my job gets. It's like life's black hole. And for all the complaints, protests and angling you try to do to make your situation better, you eventually realize it's all in vain because you're still in the vacuum of a dead-end job that nobody gives a shit about.

I think the term for it is resignation. This is when you stop trying to make things better because it's easier to shut up and take it than to make a change.

What a great quote...

Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught.

Modern Dating

During tonights lecture in my "Alternative Lifestyles & Contemporary Families" class, one of the students gave an oral presentation on dating. After she finished, other students began passing around their observations on dating rituals. Eventually the professor asked the day students how dating works for them. They were like "basically.. uh.. you hook up first, then you go on a date. I mean, that's not to say that's what I do... uh.. but that's what usually happens."

I just want to call bullshit! Not that they're wrong in how it's done, but that they never do that. These day school chicks, with their blonde hair and their smug faces... I can tell you for fact that these chicks swallow dick on the first date. Count on it.

Bode Miller

I haven't really watched much of these Olympics at all, but let me tell you, this Bode guy is a chump. It's great and wonderful if you want to put yourself above the pressures of winning a medal... that you could take it or leave it. You want to drink and ski? Well that's just far fuckin' away.

I appreciate your message, but I don't appreciate the fact that he's on the Olympic team. This guy hasn't won shit.. and in case Bode hasn't noticed, the U.S. is in the Olympics to compete and win medals, not jack off and whine to the media about how fame is like poison.

Just do us all a favor, hang it up. Kick back and be an instructor somewhere. Smoke some grass, drink a beer, do whatever.. but leave the Olympics for people who actually give a shit.

Cheney with weaponry

Well, for certain members of our federal government, it was truly an exciting weekend. Apparently while on a quail shoot, Dick Cheney accidentally attempted to blow his buddy's face off with a shotgun. This Republican white trash lady from work tried to tell me that his friend was standing in the way and it was all his fault, and that we shouldn't blame the VP at all for what happened.

Let me make this crystal clear. Hunting safety ≠ getting shot in the face. That's it. For all the testaments about how safe he is, Cheney obviously isn't that safe if he shot his buddy in the face and sent him to the hospital.

I don't get it.

Maybe it's because I'm a liberal Jew, but this whole Muslim being pissed over a costume thing is silly. Do these people ever think that because they lash out, they make the cartoons more of an issue than it really is. All this violence does is legitimize the supposed insult the Muhammad comics commit.

But see, here's the problem: most people in the Middle East, and especially the ones you see on TV, are too ignorant to understand anything else. They're too ignorant to see that violence is against their own religion. They're too ignorant to see that the violence actually does the opposite of what it's intended for.

And to blame the U.S.? For what? I know Dubya is an asshole, but wtf did we have to do with the cartoon?

Another problem is that people in this part of the world have no concept of what free speech is all about. They don't know how to cope with free speech when is critical or defamatory of something they hold dear.

It also doesn't help that you have mullahs/imams/shieks or whatever else mouthing off about it. I don't think of these people as really being any different that Pat Robertson. Most of them are stirring the pot to try and attract attention to themselves. Especially in the middle east, notoriety can mean power if you run in an election. It's a shame these people are too shortsighted to see they're being used my power-hungry warlords.
