The tedium of Squarepusher

BBC questions with Squarepusher

When I first started at VCU, one of my dormmates in Johnson Hall introduced me to this musician who goes by the name Squarepusher. Over the years I've listened to his releases and was fascinated with what kind of person could conceive of this type of music. As I always suspected, Tom Jenkinson (aka "Squarepusher") is one very complex individual.

I guess an interview like this gives him license to pontificate on his opinions, but as I read this interview, I long for just a straight answer. I can't help but catch a whiff of disdain for his audience and just about anyone who listens to his music. I can't decide whether to applaud him for being such a 'free spirit' or spite him for being such a pompous ass. Supposedly he doesn't give many interviews. There may be a good reason for this.

A more refined direction for this blog.

It seems as though as time progresses I grow increasingly softer and less interested in ranting or raving. As you can see I've changed the look of the site ever so slightly, and want to further define what this site is about or what you can expect. Simply, this blog will contain more new music reviews (either my own, or if I'm lazy someone elses), restaurant/business reviews, and occasional rants and observations. So basically, expect this blog to get softer, but in some ways more insightful before. Enjoy!

Things I haven't mentioned lately...

New ride: Have I mentioned that I finally caved and bought a new car. About a month ago I purchased a 2006 Chevy Malibu Maxx SS. I've been eyeing this ride for about a year and found in on year end rebate. Plus, coupled with the family discount, it was just too good to pass up. The biggest surprise, especially for those of you who remember the truck, I'm actually keeping it really clean. I went yesterday and stocked up at Advance Auto- wheel shine, tire shine, leather gel, leather wipes, glass wipes, cleaning wipes, shammys and towels. I think this weekend I'm going to spend a couple hours giving everything a once-over. Did you ever think you'd hear that coming from me?

More music: This past weekend I broke 35k tracks.. before long I'll be at 40k! Those who know me and are looking, buzz me :-)

Job: Monday I applied for a position at the Christian Children's Fund for a financial systems analyst position. I sent off a thank you note Tuesday. I'll keep you all posted if anything develops from it.

I'll post more news as I think of it.

Goin' for a second run.

Most everyone that reads my blog are friends of mine who keep up with me through other channels. For everyone else, the latest news is that I'm engaged! Don't know if this comes as a shock.. it shouldn't. I've been with Katie for almost two years now, and it just seemed like the right thing to do. We get along so well, and honestly I couldn't ask for a more caring, intelligent, witty and charming person to spend my days with.

We've set up a new couples blog with all of our registry info on it. If you get a chance, stop by www.berkandkate.com and check out the latest goings on as well as the links to our registries and other info.

Also, to everyone who's been there to support me, especially Tommy and Greg, a big thanks.
