The tedium of Squarepusher
BBC questions with Squarepusher
When I first started at VCU, one of my dormmates in Johnson Hall introduced me to this musician who goes by the name Squarepusher. Over the years I've listened to his releases and was fascinated with what kind of person could conceive of this type of music. As I always suspected, Tom Jenkinson (aka "Squarepusher") is one very complex individual.
I guess an interview like this gives him license to pontificate on his opinions, but as I read this interview, I long for just a straight answer. I can't help but catch a whiff of disdain for his audience and just about anyone who listens to his music. I can't decide whether to applaud him for being such a 'free spirit' or spite him for being such a pompous ass. Supposedly he doesn't give many interviews. There may be a good reason for this.
